Tomorrow, Sean Barney will be awarded a Purple Heart by the Commandant of the Marine Corps, in a ceremony presided over by Senator Tom Carper.
Sean continues to work on recovery from his wounds, concentrating on regaining use of his right arm.

Editors’ Note:
Tomorrow, Sean Barney will be discharged from the hospital and will return to Philadelphia to continue his rehabilitation.
All of Sean’s friends and collegues are overjoyed about his miraculous recovery, though we know that he has some tough times ahead to fully recover from his injuries.
Mingled with our joy, however, is awareness that Sean’s unit is still in Fallujah, and 130,000 other Americans remain in harm’s way in Iraq.
Last night, Senator Tom Carper, Sean’s former boss, offered eloquent words on the floor of the Senate about Sean, as well as Marines and a soldier from Delaware who were recently killed in action in Iraq. We provide his statement in its entirety. We hope that you will read it.

As we indicated in our last posting, Sean was badly wounded in action in Fallujah and has been returned to the United States.
Though he was gravely injured, having been shot in the neck (the bullet hit his carotid artery and exited through his back), his condition is steadily improving. He is out of the ICU and is able to sit up, talk, drink fluids, etc.
He will be hospitalized for some time to come, but all of his family, friends and colleagues are hopeful for a full recovery.
There is a story about Sean in today’s paper in Delaware.

On May 12, Sean was seriously wounded in an ambush in Fallujah. While we do not yet know the details of the attack or if others in his unit were hurt, Sean was shot in the neck, treated in Iraq and quickly evacuated to Germany and then to Bethesda Medical Center in Maryland.
His current condition is stable but serious. With the swelling and other trauma from his wounds, doctors still cannot predict the full extent or permanence of his injuries. His family is by his side, and his many friends and colleagues are keeping close tabs on his condition.
We will update this page with further information as it is available.

Well, one month down, six months to go. Time is moving fairly quickly here. The days that we are patrolling or conducting other operations are hectic, so time flies. The days we are on the FOB security move more slowly, but they provide us a chance to rest our bodies.

Fallujah, Iraq
One of my friends from my home company in New Jersey had a close call about a week ago. He was shot on patrol, but the round went straight through his leg without hitting any bones or arteries. He’s headed home but should be fine. A CNN reporter was on the patrol, so it may have been on the news. I don’t know.
